Photo Info

January’s photo is one of the first I took with a new camera phone. The brilliant sky reflected in calm waters made for a stunning sunrise picture worthy of being on the cover.

February’s photo is of a lovely snowlady on Atlantic Beach after our first heavy snow in years. She looks happy without a worry in the world, existing for a brief moment of joy.

March’s photo was taken off the beaten path on Bodie Island before sunrise. We never know what wonderful opportunities await when we explore new points of view in nature and life.

April’s photo is of a beautiful memorial in the Fort Macon dunes that seems fitting for Easter.

May’s photo is of a young racoon that visited the dock and posed for a few pictures before moving on. Live and let live is the caption because it looks concerned about my intentions.

June’s photo is of a rare black and white fogbow over Kure Beach fishing pier. The fogbow first appeared on a ferry ride from Southport to Fort Fisher. This is the only one I have seen.

July’s photo of the Little Red Lighthouse in Saugatuck Michigan was taken while visiting family. The crisp flag completed a classic scene to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

August’s photo was taken offshore of Cape Lookout as the setting sun struck low clouds at various angles to show an array of natural light beauty around a big ship made to look small.

September’s photo was taken from Cape Hatteras Motel and shows the old timey charm of yesteryear with a porch full of wooden rocking chairs and clothes lines right on the beach.

October’s photo is of a Spiny Dog Shark nature tricked with a big wave washing it ashore. I treated the stranded shark to freedom by releasing it alive after snapping a quick picture.

November’s photo is of a Green Heron that lives under the dock looking skyward late one afternoon as if giving thanks for another good day of living wild and free in coastal Carolina.

December’s photo is of an old horsedrawn carriage on the historic Wilmington waterfront that was tastefully decorated to celebrate some different seasonal holidays.

All the photos in this year’s calendar were taken with a new camera phone to highlight advances in technology that will quickly transform our lives for better or worse depending on what we do now. Taking pictures has helped me understand the importance of timing and looking for the best opportunities available.  We have a wonderful opportunity to usher in a new Renaissance Period of enlightenment and creativity with the financial freedom and time to pursue our version of happiness if we start thinking about how to make the best of technological, societal, and economic changes that are coming whether we like it or not.
