I set up this radio show to give fishermen and fishery advocates a way to inform the public about how our fisheries are being mismanaged and how we are losing our freedom to access American seafood. You can listen whenever you want and each episode is only 30 minutes long. You can call in to live shows or ask questions in the comment section. You can even be a guest if there is an issue related to harvesting natural resources you would like to discuss. Thank you for participating and I hope you enjoy the show! Click the links below to listen to archives and see scheduled episodes. The latest shows are at the bottom.

Anyone interested in being a guest on the show or becoming a freefish7 member for FREE can use the comment box on the Membership and Contact page.

The South Atlantic Fishery Management Council is plotting to force commercial snapper/grouper fishermen to install unconstitutional spy devices on our boats to keep us out of Marine Protected Areas that are only closed to one kind of fishing. The council also says Vessel Monitoring Systems (VMS) will prevent fishermen from leaving the dock before a season opens. This is a moot point because there is always some kind of seafood that is legal to target.

The simple solution is to use data buoys and platforms with video cameras to monitor closed areas. This would provide a visual marker for fishermen to avoid while monitoring anyone entering an MPA rather than just a small minority of commercial fishermen. It is one thing to monitor closed areas from public platforms or buoys, it is quite another to force fishermen to install and maintain an expensive GPS tacking unit on our private property while paying some corporation a monthly fee to spy on us. Orwellian Vessel Monitoring Systems blatantly violate our Fourth Amendment Constitutional Rights.

Please send the South Atlantic Fishery Management Council a copy of these comments along with a statement of support or just say you OPPOSE VMS. safmc@safmc.net Thank you!
